The Discovery

In July 2009, metal detectorist Terry Herbert was scanning a field in Staffordshire, England, when his detector picked up a strong signal. He began to dig, and soon he uncovered a small gold object. Herbert contacted the Portable Antiquities Scheme, a government-funded organization that records and catalogues archaeological finds. The hoard was declared treasure trove, which means that it became the property of the British Crown. The Legal Battle
