Jacked: How Conservatives Are Picking Your Pocket
Conservatives are often portrayed as the party of fiscal responsibility, but their policies often have the opposite effect. In fact, a recent study by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities found that conservative economic policies have actually increased the national debt by $1.9 trillion since 2001.

This is not to say that all conservative policies are bad for the economy. Some, such as tax cuts for businesses, can actually lead to economic growth. However, many other conservative policies, such as tax cuts for the wealthy and cuts to social programs, have a negative impact on the economy.
In this article, we will take a closer look at some of the ways that conservative policies are picking your pocket. We will also discuss some of the alternatives that progressives are proposing to address these problems.
Tax Cuts for the Wealthy
One of the most common conservative economic policies is tax cuts for the wealthy. Conservatives argue that these tax cuts will lead to economic growth by stimulating investment and job creation. However, there is little evidence to support this claim. In fact, a study by the Congressional Research Service found that tax cuts for the wealthy actually lead to increased income inequality and do not stimulate economic growth.
The reason why tax cuts for the wealthy do not stimulate economic growth is because the wealthy tend to save their money rather than invest it. This is because the wealthy already have more money than they need to meet their basic needs, so they do not need to invest their money in order to make more money.
In contrast, tax cuts for the middle class and the poor are much more likely to stimulate economic growth. This is because the middle class and the poor tend to spend their money on goods and services, which creates jobs and helps to grow the economy.
Cuts to Social Programs
Another common conservative economic policy is cuts to social programs. Conservatives argue that these cuts are necessary to reduce government spending and the national debt. However, cuts to social programs actually have a number of negative consequences, including:
* Increased poverty and homelessness * Reduced access to healthcare and education * Increased crime rates * Reduced economic growth
Cuts to social programs are especially harmful to the most vulnerable members of our society, such as children, the elderly, and the disabled. These programs provide essential services that help people to meet their basic needs and to live healthy and productive lives.
The Alternatives
Progressives believe that there are better ways to address our economic problems than conservative policies. Progressives propose a number of alternative policies, such as:
* Raising taxes on the wealthy * Investing in infrastructure and education * Expanding access to healthcare and affordable housing * Creating jobs and raising wages
These policies are designed to create a more just and equitable economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
Conservative economic policies are not the answer to our economic problems. In fact, these policies often make our problems worse by increasing the national debt, widening the gap between the rich and the poor, and harming the most vulnerable members of our society.
Progressives offer a better alternative to conservative economic policies. Progressive policies are designed to create a more just and equitable economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
